Singapore Design Week 2024

Singapore Design Week 2024 – People of Design

With the theme ”People of Design”, this year’s Singapore Design Week honours the everyday visionaries among us who are making meaningful contributions to society through design. They come from all walks of life, but share a collective aspiration to make things better. This year, we invite everyone to join us in uncovering their own design potential to bring new and better outcomes to light – ultimately creating a more liveable and loveable Singapore.

MODERN MODS by KompacPlus

Once again, KompacPlus is glad to be part of Singapore Design Week 2024 programme line up.

Modern Mods is a design philosophy that focuses on the transformative power of creative design in everyday spaces, highlighting how thoughtful and imaginative design can significantly enhance the functionality, aesthetics, and overall experience of any environment. It also emphasises the importance of collaboration among the various professionals involved in the process, from initial design to final installation.

KompacPlay Art Gallery is an open exhibit of creative applications made of KompacPanels off-cuts, featuring collaborative works between KompacPlus and guest designers to create pieces in different arenas of play – 3D Sculptural Design & Panel Painting.

FLIGHT by 11H

The 3D sculptural design display is a partnership with Kenny, the founder of 11H Studio – a design studio that focuses on interior and product as well as furniture design.

Flight By 11H was inspired by Kenny’s recent trip to KompacPlus factory located in Sugei Kadut, where there he saw off-cuts of KompacPanels in assorted shapes and colours. Building on KompacPlus’s ongoing efforts to reduce material waste, offcuts were selected for the creation of this impressive display that also pays tribute to called FUTURISMO – an artistic and social movement originated in Italy that emphasises on dynamism, speed, technology and futuristic elements such as cars, airplanes and the industrial city.

These off-cuts were artistically combined to mimic wings in constant state of flight. A giant symbol of freedom that also shares the KompacPlus passion in creative innovation and endless possibilities in its Unbounded journey.

To match the industrial theme of FUTURISMO, metallic and stone colours from the PATTERNS Kollection were used for this display.

Flight by 11H is set to inspire the audiences with future creative chapters and the discovery of endless possibilities with KompacPlus.

MUDSKIPPER AND FRIENDS by Ripple Root

The colourful display up on the wall in the showroom is titled Mudskipper and friends, designed by local artists Ripple Root. The creative duo behind Ripple Root specialises in colourful paintings featuring nature and wildlife, often collaborating with brands to create wall murals and featured in art exhibitions since 2015.

Mudskipper and friends was inspired by a mangrove swamp, which was also the origin from which Ripple Root had gotten its brand name.

KompacPanels are used as the canvas for this painting that features a mudskipper – a type of fish that can live in and out of water interacting with the natural surroundings in a mangrove swamp. The painting on the panel represent the complex root system of mangrove trees that act as the background setting for this painting, surrounded by other elements of nature.

For this display, two colours from the Patterns Kollection were used as the canvas: K3.04 Milano Marble and K3.08 Monte Forato Cardoso. Painted over with acrylic paint, this application demonstrates the panel’s high resistance to water and stains even with different finishing textures, allowing these colours to stay bright on the surface for a long time.
